While the Village has become the central focus of the Caritas Community over the past six years, the Caritas House continues to operate and be a place of hospitality and connection. The Chrisis room offers to whoever needs a place to stay for a short time. In addition, the Caritas Community has acquired three additional houses that provide affordable rental housing in the Binghamton neighborhood. One of the dilemmas in improving a low-income neighborhood is that investors begin purchasing real estate, making the area too expensive for
long-time residents. The houses of the Caritas Community provide a home for those at a rent compatible with their ability to pay. Without these homes, some would find themselves homeless.
If you have not done so lately, I hope you will stop by the Caritas Village. Have a cup of coffee or lunch. There is a charge for the food, but everyone who is hungry eats, whether they can pay or not.
I also hope you will prayerfully consider making a financial gift to the Caritas Community. Inviting you to give is not only a way to grow and sustain the work of Caritas, but it is also a way for Caritas to connect and be in relationship with you! After all, extending our selves and offering opportunities for connections is what is at the heart of Caritas.
